Dallas, TX. — Dealing with a rain filled Friday, the UC Davis Equestrian Team returned back to action Saturday and completed two meets against Delaware State, and SMU. The Aggies ultimately dropped both meets after losing 7-7 on raw score to Delaware State, and then 14-6 against No. 1 ranked SMU.
After their meet with TCU on Friday, the Ags had a quick turnaround and started the first half of their meet with Delaware State that same evening. Saturday morning, the Aggies would conclude the second half of their meet and fall to Delaware State on raw score after being tied in points at 7-7. Delaware State sealed the tiebreaker score with a 1237.25 advantage over UC Davis' 1078.25.
In a meet that went down to the wire, two Aggies were tabbed as MOP's after Marin Gilliland scored an 80 for her effort in Flat while Carly Sweeney has continued to show her dominance by scoring an 85 in Fences. Sweeney is fresh off a ECAC Rider of the Month Award in Fences and has been awarded a point in Fences in all but one meet this season. The junior from Scottsdale, Arizona has been off to one of the best starts in recent history for UC Davis Equestrian and has been someone first-year head coach Jill Humphrey can trust day in and day out to compete with the best of the best.
The Aggies were able to secure the Jumping Seat advantage 6-1 against Delaware State but just got narrowly edged out on the day in Western with DSU taking home both MOP's in Reining and Horsemanship.
After the heartbreaking tie-breaker loss, the Aggies had to prepare with a quick turnaround for the third meet in two days and faced top dogs in No. 1 ranked SMU.
UC Davis snagged two of the MOP's during their meeting with SMU and edged out the Mustangs on the Flat but concluded their weekend in Texas with a 14-6 loss. Earning MOP's during the meet for the Ags were Nicole Beales who rode her way to an 86 in Flat, and Kendal Scheiner who earned her second MOP of the year with a 73 in Reining.
The Aggies will enjoy a long break and don't return to action until Thursday, Feb. 2 when they host Minnesota Crookston at the UC Davis Equestrian Center.
