Four Aggies earn All-Conference Honors

Davis, Calif. — The Big West announced the 2022 Men's Soccer All-Conference Team and Major Awards Winners Tuesday afternoon with three Aggies receiving honors. An All-Conference Team Member just a year ago, senior Max Glasser finds himself on the All-Conference Second Team for the second straight season. Joining Glasser in receiving honors include newcomer Cason Goodman who was named to the All-Freshman Team while forward Ethan Hoard and midfielder Andy Velasquez were tabbed as Honorable Mention All-Conference Members.

The senior from Novato, California, Glasser's appearance on the All-Conference Second Team marks the third All-Conference nod after being a second team member last year, and an honorable mention in 2019. On top of his All-Conference nods, Glasser adds to his impressive UC Davis resume as he has also been part of the Big West All-Academic Team twice. On the season Glasser led the Aggies in points (7) while also being tied for the lead in goals (2) and assists (3). This is the first season of Glasser's career in which he has led the Aggies in assists and advanced analytics back this up even further. According to First Team Analytics, Glasser has been one of the most efficient set up men in the country; most recently posting an xA (expected assist rate) of 1.54 on passes from Oct. 20-27, good for second among all qualified members in Division 1 soccer. Glasser was a consistent contributor all season for UC Davis and really shined in conference matches against CSUN where he was on the front end of a game-winning Ryan Dieter goal, as well as the season finale where he scored the opening goal (9') against rival Sacramento State to help secure a postseason berth for UC Davis.

Goodman becomes the 10th Aggie to be named to the All-Freshman Team since 2013 and joins the likes of current teammate and honorable mention member Andy Velazquez as recipients of the honor. Hailing from Santa Barbara, California, Goodman recorded two goals during his debut campaign while also adding in an assist. Seeing action in every game, Goodman is tied for fifth among all teammates with five shots on goal. Goodman's highlight during Big West play was his goal (77') in a tie against Cal Poly during the conference opener on Sept. 28.

Velasquez adds to his resume yet again and is an honorable mention for the second straight season. In his final season here at Davis, the senior from Ceres, California has shown to be everything you would want out of your midfield and was recognized by the coaches for his efforts. Velasquez clocked the third most minutes played among all Aggies, trailing only Charles Janssen and Luke Goodman while also recording 13 shots with five shots being on goal. Velasquez will end up leaving Davis with two honorable mention recognitions, an All-Freshman Team appearance in 2018, and an All-Big West Second Team nod in 2019.

Rounding out the list of Aggies earning honors is junior forward Ethan Hoard earning an honorable mention. A transfer from Green Bay who calls Racine, Wisconsin home, Hoard stepped in and has immediately made an impact on the UC Davis program with his ferocious pace. Hoard leads all Aggies in shots with 37, and is second on the team in points with six. Hoard has two goals on the season along with two assists and has put the pressure on opposing keepers all season with his whopping 17 shots on goal. In conference, Hoard shined in the match against Cal Poly where he assisted fellow All-Conference honoree, Cason Goodman. He also left his imprint on the game during the season finale against Sacramento State in which he scored the game-winning goal (27') to send the Ags to the Big West Championships.

UC Davis finished the 2022 regular season with a 5-8-4 overall record and a 4-3-2 mark in Big West competition. It is the 11th consecutive Big West Championships appearance for UC Davis Men's Soccer with tournament play taking place tomorrow, Nov. 2 at 7:00 p.m. when the Aggies visit the hosting CSUN Matadors in the first round.
