BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The UC Davis women's volleyball team began a four-game road trip with a tough loss to CSU Bakersfield, 3-0, Friday night at Icardo Center in Bakersfield, Calif.
"We didn't come ready to play," head coach
Dan Conners said. "The starters were not performing, so I thought the bench deserved to get an opportunity tonight."
The Aggies dropped their second road conference game of the season, now holding a 3-2 record in Big West play and 8-7 overall record. CSU Bakersfield earns their first conference victory to go to 1-4 and establish a 4-14 overall record.
In a game that saw Conners use to the bulk of his bench, junior
Lana Radakovic paced the Aggies with seven kills. Seven other Aggies recorded kills in the match, including the first of the season for senior
Shkhinah Tindsley and freshman
Makena Morrison. Freshman
Jade Light had a season-high three kills on the night.
At the forefront, sophomore
Alexa Hogan collected a season-high five total blocks. Defensively, junior
Shira Lahav paced the Aggies with eight digs. Sophomore
Casi Newman followed behind Lahav with five digs.
The Roadrunners commanded the pace in each of the three sets, beginning with a 12-3 start, forcing the Aggies to take a timeout. UC Davis attempted to come back, but CSU Bakersfield found their groove early and won the opening set 25-11.
To start the second set, the Aggies and Roadrunners went back-to-back in scoring before the home team took off with a burst of steam to a 12-7 lead. The Roadrunners didn't look back, securing the second set by a score of 25-17, which was the closest margin of the three sets on the night.
The third set saw the Aggies take a lead, but the Roadrunners quickly responded and delivered the final punches with a 25-13 set victory to secure the match win.
UC Davis hit .023 for the match compared to .403 for CSU Bakersfield.
The Aggies continue their road trip with a quick turnaround tomorrow against Cal Poly at 7 pm PT.
