Hastings and Buchanan Earn Big Sky Weekly Honors

FARMINGTON, Utah – A pair of Aggies were recognized for their performance in the 59-17 victory over Cal Poly on Saturday. UC Davis sophomore Miles Hastings was named the Big Sky Offensive Player of the Week, while classmate linebacker Teddye Buchanan garnered Defensive Player of Week accolades.

Hastings has been leading the charge for the red-hot Aggie offense. Hastings had a career afternoon in the Battle for the Golden Horseshoe, leading the Aggies to a 59-17 victory over Cal Poly. The signal-caller was 22-for-27, throwing for a career-high 425 yards and four touchdowns. Hastings had touchdown throws of 67, 65, 52, and 22 yards.

Over the three-game winning streak, the San Marcos native has completed 82 percent of his passes for 1,004 yards and nine touchdowns to zero interceptions. He enters the Idaho State contest leading the conference with 284.88 passing yards per game and 2,279 passing yards, while his 18 touchdowns through the air rank third.

In his second game back from an injury, Buchanan made his presence felt on the defensive side of the ball. Buchanan tallied five tackles and picked off two passes. His first interception came in the endzone to thwart a Cal Poly scoring chance. The team captain then returned his second interception 65 yards for a touchdown.

In four games this season, Buchanan has registered 28 total tackles and picked off three passes. The Aggie defense ranks second in the league in red zone defense and turnover margin, as UCD has recovered six fumbles and recorded 11 interceptions.

The Defensive Player of the Week honor is the third on the season for the Aggies and second in a row as Rex Connors has nabbed the award twice this year.

UC Davis will conclude its regular season home slate against Idaho State on Saturday, Nov. 5. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. from UC Davis Health Stadium.
