Durham, N.H. – Across the country in New Hampshire, the UC Davis Aggies Field Hockey Team suffered a heartbreaking, stroke-off 3-2 defeat to the Wildcats. The Aggies move to 2-12 overall and 1-6 in America East play. In what has been an ultra competitive America East Conference, the Aggies have proven week in and week out to battle against the likes of the best teams in the country with another strong performance on the road.
New Hampshire would come out the gates hot as Tasmin Cookman recorded her 16th goal of the season just one minute into the game. The Aggies would trail for quite some time, but around the 18 minute mark the frontline would respond in a big way.
Brooke Sanchez added yet another goal to her career year and brings her total up to seven on the season. She was on the receiving end of a Karly Redman assist that started off an Aggie fast break in which the referees awarded UC Davis the ball near their own goal right after a New Hampshire corner attempt. The assist for Redman was the first of her career and brings her up to three points on the year. Sanchez just keeps impressing every outing out and is just one goal away from being second all-time on most goals in a season and two away from tying the all-time record holder Jamie Garcia who had nine in 2015.
Lizzy Tedrow also shined in this match for UC Davis as she recorded her third goal of the year. Audrey Lee picked up the assist on Tedrow's goal giving way to her first point of the season. With the goal, Tedrow moves to 10 points on the year, good for second on the team, trailing right behind Brooke Sanchez and her 14. Tedrow has three goals and four assists on the year.
Even with the storming brilliance from Tedrow and Sanchez, New Hampshire would claw their way back into the match and finished the game strong as Lindsay Lee would tie the game up 43:19 mark. About another 40 minutes of scoreless field hockey would proceed this and ultimately, the match would come down to a stroke-off.
In the stroke-off, Shannon Lackey and Audrey Lee would find the back of the net for Davis. Kalli Wagnon would also pick up three straight saves in the stroke-off but at the end of the day, it was Lindsay Lee again who would seal the fate of the game as she ended up picking up the game-winning-goal in the stroke-off to give the New Hampshire Wildcats a 3-2 victory.
The next and final match of the season for UC Davis Field Hockey will take place Sunday, Oct. 30 as the Aggies will square off against the Maine Black Bears at 10AM PT.
