DAVIS, Calif. – The UC Davis women's soccer team defended its home field in a crucial Big West Conference matchup, downing Cal State Fullerton, 2-1, Thursday afternoon at Aggie Soccer Field.
The Aggies (7-5-4, 4-2-2), who were a slot below the Titans (7-5-5, 4-2-2) in the league standings, set the tone with a goal in the second minute. Sophomore
Emma Vane slid a pass through the box that found junior
Lindsey Porter, who did the rest, burying the one-timer near post. The goal was the second of the season for the Loomis native, while the assist was the third on the year for Vane.
Both teams went into the break equal at one as Cal State Fullerton converted a penalty kick in the 32
nd minute. Kaya Hawkinson was credited with her fourth goal of the season for the Titans.
Vane secured the victory in the 50
th minute, hammering home the game-winner near post from the top of the box for her third goal and ninth point on the season.
Both teams fired off 10 shots as redshirt sophomore
Caeley Goldstein tallied four saves in the winning effort. Junior
Leslie Fregoso paced the Aggies with four shots, putting two on frame.
UC Davis will return to Aggie Soccer Field for their regular season home finale as they host UC Riverside on Sunday, Oct. 23. The match will mark Senior Day for the Ags as kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
