La Jolla, Calif. - Genevieve Fontes scored twice,
Lindsey Porter scored her first career goal and UC Davis rolled to a 3-0 win over UC San Diego on Sunday afternoon in La Jolla.
The total matches UC Davis' scoring high set in the season opener at UTEP and is the Aggies' first win in nearly a month to the day.
Fontes' afternoon was her first career multi-goal game, established a new career-high with three goals on the season, and gave her the team goals and points lead.
A transfer from UC Santa Barbara, Porter's first half strike was the first in her three-season career.
After
Molly Branigan stole the ball off a short Triton goal kick, Porter drove inside the penalty box and fired from the top left corner to put UC Davis up 1-0 in the 15th minute.
Fontes' first goal came in the 24th minute on a ball placed perfectly by
Sarah Canavan on the left side of the goal that Fontes only needed to get her right foot on to tap in, colliding with UC San Diego keeper Keara Fitzgerald in the process.
Later in the 62nd minute and playing off a goal kick by
Caeley Goldstein,
Devyn Simmons pushed ahead to
Sammie Ruelas who sent a cross from the right side of the box in to Fontes who again only needed to tap in from the left side of the goal.
Goldstein made three saves and faced nine shots for UC Davis.
The win brings UC Davis back to .500 at 4-4-4 and a valuable two points in the Big West standings.
In the midst of a three-game stretch away from Aggie Soccer Field, UC Davis travel next to Cal Poly on Oct. 6.
