DAVIS, Calif. – The top two UC Davis singles players from a year ago made their way through the Blue bracket to meet in an all-Aggie final on Sunday at the Marya Welch Tennis Complex. Sophomore Ryan Torres bested his senior teammate Andre Volgin in an epic match to close out the 2022 Aggie Invitational.

Volgin raced to an early lead, seizing the first set, 6-1. Torres battled back to win the second set, 6-4, and then claimed the tournament title in a slugfest of a third set, 7-6, with a 7-3 victory in the tiebreak.

Both Volgin and Torres used victories in at least one set with a tiebreak in the semifinals as Volgin breezed through the quarters and round of 16. Torres' path to the title was not as smooth, needing three sets in the round of 16 and another three-setter that included two tiebreaks to advance.

In the white bracket, another Aggie proved victorious as senior Coleton Hootman downed Manroop Saini of Pacific, 4-6, 6-0, 6-4, to win the White bracket. Aggie transfer Sam De Vries won the Gold bracket as Youssef Kadiri had to retire after De Vries won the first set, 6-4.
