Fregoso's first half hat trick sends Aggies past CSU Bakersfield

Davis, Calif. - Leslie Fregoso scored a hat trick that only took 5:40 seconds of game time and UC Davis rolled to a 4-1 win over CSU Bakersfield on Thursday night at Aggie Soccer Field.

Fregoso scored in the third minute off a free kick by Jayde Holley, in the seventh minute off an assist from Molly Branigan, and again in the ninth minute on a pass in the box from Lindsey Porter that she corralled, turned and fired a shot that CSU Bakersfield's keeper wasn't able to control.

It was her first career hat trick and moved her to ninth all-time and second in the Division I era in career goals.

Emma Vane rounded out the Aggies' scoring, hitting from the top of the circle off her left foot for her second goal of the season.

The win moved UC Davis above .500 at 6-5-4 and 3-2-2 in the Big West, jumping all the way to second in the standings. The Aggies have won two straight for the first time since their opening two matches of the season and are 3-1-2 over their last six.

Though the Aggies had the game in hand up 3-0 in the first nine minutes, they continued to apply pressure with a well struck ball by Porter in the 10th minute nearly making it 4-0.

UC Davis outshot CSU Bakersfield 18-3, 11 of those coming on goal. Caeley Goldstein wasn't called upon for a save but her goals against average remains at 1.00, second in the Big West and on pace for a mark that would be the best by an Aggie since Alexis Smith in 2015.

The Aggies will remain in Davis after Thursday's win, playing their final two home matches on Oct. 20 and Oct. 23 before finishing the season at conference-leading Long Beach State on Oct. 27.
