Aggies drop conference game on the road to UC Riverside

Box Score Riverside, Calif. - UC Davis took more shots on goal than an opponent for the second straight game but fell 1-0 to UC Riverside on Saturday night in Riverside.

The Aggies out-shot the Highlanders 5-4 on frame, including an outstanding chance by Andrew Dutra in the first half that went just wide left of the goal and another near-connection from Max Glasser to Ethan Hoard in the 84th minute that was just barely too high for Hoard in the box.

Hoard, UC Davis' shots leader on the season, took three on Saturday night, all on goal. Luke Goodman and Glasser also had a chance each.

Goalkeeper Charles Janssen had an outstanding first half, frequently coming out to control balls on the boundary of the penalty box and surrendered just the one score in the 59th minute, a quick strike down the field by the Highlanders that Janssen just got his fingertips on.

The goal was just the third Janssen has allowed over his last six starts, a span that also includes three shutouts.

UC Davis (1-6-3, 0-1-1) face UC Irvine at home on Wednesday, Oct. 5 at Aggie Soccer Field.
