DAVIS, Calif. -- Having spent the last seven seasons training the goalkeepers as an assistant coach at Middle Tennessee, Northern California native Yiana Dimmitt is returning to her roots, joining the UC Davis women's soccer coaching staff in a similar capacity, Head Coach
Tracy Hamm announced on Wednesday.
"Yiana is a great coach with such passion and excitement for the game," Hamm said. "As a Northern California native, I know she has the experience, knowledge, and understanding of what it takes to add merit and value to the UC Davis women's soccer program. We are lucky to have such a dynamic and charismatic coach join our staff."
Originally from Redwood City, Calif., Dimmitt joined the Blue Raider staff prior to the 2015 season and helped lead Middle Tennessee to 52 victories -- including 10-win seasons in 2015 and 2018 -- as well as five trips to the Conference USA Tournament in her seven years. She helped goalkeeper Kelsey Brouwer to United Soccer Coaches all-region, C-USA Defensive Player of the Year, and all-league first team honors, in her first season, while helping mentor a total of six United Soccer Coaches all-region selections, nine All-Conference USA choices, five league all-freshman team honorees, and 10 conference players of the week, with Middle Tennessee.
Prior to her arrival in Murfreesboro, Dimmitt served as an assistant at Cal State East Bay for the 2014 season, assisting in all aspects of the program while also coordinating the program's recruiting efforts, and also made a stop as an assistant coach at Holy Names University in Oakland, Calif.
In addition to her collegiate experience, Dimmitt also served as an assistant coach at Archbishop Mitty HS in San Jose, Calif., helping lead the Monarchs to a pair of CIF Central Coast Section titles, and was active at the club level, mentoring various age-group teams with Dublin United (U12 and U17) and the Lamorinda United Soccer Club (U8 and U10).
On the field, Dimmitt was a standout student-athlete, spending her first three collegiate seasons at UCLA before transferring to Loyola Marymount for her senior season. She saw action in 14 matches for the Bruins, finishing with six saves in a start against North Carolina and appeared as a reserve in NCAA Tournament victories over Boise State and San Diego State in 2009.
During her senior campaign with the Lions, Dimmitt earned West Coast Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll laurels and was a National Scholar-Athlete, graduating in 2012 with a bachelor's degree in history.
Following her collegiate career, she played professionally for the Bay Area Breeze for two seasons before joining the Tottenham Hotspur East Bay Ladies in 2015, helping her side to a Pac-North Division Championship and a berth in the Western Regional finals.
Named one the top 150 recruits in the country out of Woodside HS, Dimmett was a four-year letter winner for the Wildcats, earning first-team All-Peninsula Athletic League honors as a freshman and twice serving as team captain as a sophomore and senior. A three-time team MVP, she was a four-year member of the Cal North ODP Team (2004-07) and played on the Region IV ODP Team in 2005 and 2006.
