Hall helps Aggies gut out win over Matadors

Senior records a double-double, Turner with a big second half

DAVIS, Calif. -- Senior Cierra Hall finished with a game-high 21 points and 11 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season, while teammate Evanne Turner scored 12 of her 17 in the second half, helping lift UC Davis to its second straight Big West Conference victory with a 48-41 triumph over CSUN on Saturday afternoon at the University Credit Union Center.

The Aggies improved to 8-6 overall and 2-2 in league play, holding the Matadors to just 26 percent from the field for the game -- the lowest by a UC Davis opponent this year. CSUN, which finished with no players in double figures, fell to 6-9 overall and 2-3 in league.

Hall, who reached double figures for the 11th time in 14 games, hit 6-of-14 from the field and add 8-of-10 from the line en route to her total, which fell just one point shy of her season high of 22 against Gonzaga back on Dec. 19. The Cypress, Calif., native now has 1,102 career points, good for 16th on the school's all-time list and just one point back of Brenda Wyneken (1981-84) for 15th place.

Turner also finished 6-of-14 from the floor, but flourished in the second half, adding four rebounds to her total.

Neither team found much of a groove on the day as CSUN held a 9-7 lead after one, but the Aggies responded in the second quarter, using a 7-0 burst to regain the lead and a later 7-2 run while shooting 43 percent in the period en route to a 23-21 halftime advantage.

UC Davis' lead grew to as many as seven on a couple of occasions in the third quarter and ballooned to as many as 10 in the final minute of regulation as the Aggies kept CSUN at arms length the rest of the afternoon.

The road awaits the Aggies next week as UC Davis heads to Southern California to take on Cal State Fullerton (Jan. 27) and Long Beach State (Jan. 29).
