DAVIS, Calif. – The UC Davis men's tennis team completed the first two matches of a five-match opening weekend, Friday in Southern California. In the morning session, the Aggies fell to No. 9-ranked USC, 7-0, and then rallied to down Biola University, 6-1, in the afternoon. 

Opening the spring season at Marks Stadium against the No. 9-ranked Trojans, the Aggies battled to try and secure the doubles point as juniors Brett Brinkman, and Andras Necz earned a 6-4 victory on court three. The freshmen duo of Ryan Morgan and Ryan Torres nearly gave UC Davis the early lead over the top-10 foe but eventually fell on court two, 6-4. 

In singles action, Necz took #35 Peter Makk to the brink in set two on court four but ultimately dropped a 6-2, 7-5 decision. Junior Mitchell Davis lost on court six, 6-2, 7-5. Junior Andrei Volgin fell to No. 6-ranked Stefan Dostanic, 6-3, 6-4. 

The Aggies breezed through the doubles point at Biola, sweeping the Eagles, 6-4, 6-1, and 6-1. Morgan and Necz set the tone with two-set wins to start singles play as Torres bounced back after an opening set drawback to win 6-2, 6-3 on court two. Volgin then won in two sets on court one, 6-4, 7-6 before Davis won on court six, 6-3, 6-7, 10-7, to round out the first day of competition. 

The Aggies continue their busy opening weekend with two more matches tomorrow, opening Saturday against College of the Desert and finishing the day against Hope International. The Southern California road swing concludes on Sunday against LMU.
