DAVIS, Calif. - True freshman forward
Emma Vane scored two goals, including the game-winner in the 81st minute, while sixth-year midfielder
Emma Hasco added a goal and an assist, boosting UC Davis to a 3-2 win over UTEP in non-conference women's soccer action at Aggie Soccer Field Sunday afternoon.
The Aggies even their record to 2-2. The Miners slip to 0-4 for the year.
Vane punched in her first goal just two minutes, 55 seconds into the contest, collecting a cross from Hasco on the middle of the penalty box and driving the ball into the lower left corner of the frame. Hasco then doubled the Aggie lead to 2-0 in the 38th, converting a
Leslie Fregoso assist on a breakaway opportunity.Â
However, UTEP answered back with a goal by Sheyliene Patolo in the final minutes of the first half, then equalizing on Jackie Soto's goal in the 79th minute. Junior Vic Bohdan found Soto for the assist on that second Miner score. The tie proved short-lived, however.
Kylie Garcia's entry pass caromed off the right post of the UTEP goal and landed at the feet of Vane, who promptly sent the ball back into the cage for the go-ahead with 9:27 remaining in regulation.
Overall, UC Davis outshot its guest by a 23-12 margin, and held the Miners to just four attempts after the halftime break.
The Aggies return to action in a road trip to Gem State for games at Boise State and Idaho State on September 2 and 5, respectively.
