DAVIS, Calif. – Sophomore third baseman
Jalen Smith earned All-Big West Second Team accolades on Wednesday when league officials announced their year-end honor roll.

The Bakersfield, California native enjoyed his best season as an Aggie by posting career-high figures across the board and ended the season with five NCAA individual rankings.

Among all Division I players in the country, Smith finished No. 60 in sacrifice bunts (7), No. 76 in hits (71) No. 87 in doubles (16), No. 101 in triples (3) and No. 113 in stolen bases (15).

One of the most well-rounded individuals in the Big West — known across the country as one of the most talent-laden conferences in college baseball — ended the season with six top-10 totals among all league players. Ranked No. 3 in sacrifice bunts and stolen bases, he finished No. 7 in hits, doubles and total bases (108). Smith also scored 46 runs throughout 2021, the eighth-highest figure in the BWC.

One of two Aggies who started all 57 games in 2021, Smith posted team-high stats in 12 categories by finishing with a .313 batting average, .864 on-base percentage, .476 slugging percentage, 227 at bats, 46 runs, 71 hits, 16 doubles, three triples, five home runs, 108 total bases, seven sacrifice hits and 15 stolen bases.Â
