LA JOLLA, Calif. – Omar Plascencia hit his first home run as an Aggie in the first of two Big West games played at Triton Ballpark on Saturday, and Connor Longrie hit one of his own with a line drive that cleared the fence in right center in the second inning of the following game.

Also taking place in that second game was another blast from Plascencia, who entered to pinch hit in the sixth inning and became the first Aggie to hit a pair of home runs on the same day since Alejandro Lara accomplished the feat against San Francisco on April 22, 2019.

But early runs from UC San Diego in both contests helped it collect victories by respective scores of 8-3 and 18-3 in seven innings.

UC Davis will return to action in Sunday's 1 p.m. series finale at 13-35 overall and 6-23 against Big West teams, UCSD improves to 17-26 and 14-17 with Saturday's results as the Aggies will look to secure a split of their weekend games in La Jolla before returning to Davis for its final home series of the season.

In addition to live stats, ESPN3 will provide a video stream of Sunday's action.

In Saturday's opening game, the Tritons jumped out to an early 6-0 lead with a bulk of its runs earned in the bottom of the second. Leading 4-0 through two, they extended their lead two innings later by pushing another two across the plate.

That score remained untouched for three full frames until Kyler Arenado put the Aggies on the board when he scored from third on Jalen Smith's single to right center.

Arenado led off the inning with a triple to that same location.

Following a pair of insurance runs scored by UCSD in its half of the eighth, which extended its lead to 8-1, Plascencia hit his first career home run in the top of the ninth, negating the two runs scored by the Tritons in the previous frame and generating some late-game momentum for the Aggies.

As was the case with yesterday's series opener when UC Davis scored quickly, and often, UC San Diego's early offense led to its first win of the series.

Following a brief respite between games, the Aggies immediately struck first when Smith opened the game with a single to left. After stealing second, he advanced to third on a throwing error from the Tritons' catcher who saw his attempt to catch the Aggie speedster stealing sail above his teammate into center field.

On the following play, Cooper Morrison drove in Smith on a sacrifice fly to right field, which gave UC Davis an early 1-0 lead.

Even though UCSD scored four runs in its opening half of the game, Longrie responded with a solo home run when the Aggies returned to the plate in the top of the second, which trimmed their deficit to a pair of runs at 4-2.

Plascencia hit another home run when he entered the top of the sixth to record UC Davis' third run of the game.

Unfortunately for the Aggies, the Tritons hung three on the scoreboard between Longrie's long ball and Plascencia's in the second, third and fifth innings, and scored another five in the bottom of the sixth to pull away and sweep the day's doubleheader by winning the second game in a seven innings.
