UC Davis announces 2021 Hall of Fame class

Five former student-athletes to enter CAAHOF on October 1

DAVIS, Calif. -- Five former UC Davis student-athletes from three different decades have been selected for 2021 induction into the Cal Aggie Athletics Hall of Fame, the intercollegiate athletics department announced on Friday. The ceremony will take place on October 1, the Friday before the Aggies' home football game against Idaho, during which the inductees will be guests of honor.

Alphabetically, the new inductees are swimmer Cookie Arrighi, basketball player Sydnee Fipps, basketball player Corey Hawkins, lacrosse player Katie McMahon and football player Marc Manfredda.

The first-ever recipient of the Hubert Heitman Award for the university's female athlete of the year, Arrighi starred for the UC Davis swimming program from the first years after the passage of Title IX. She qualified for the World University Games as a freshman in 1973, won three conference titles in 1974-75, and competed at the AIAW Championships in Fort Lauderdale, Florida as a senior co-captain in 1975-76. Arrighi also served on Title IX committees for the State of California and the university, while also joining the selection committee that hired Barbara Jahn as the program's first full-time head coach.

Fipps earned three Big West Conference first-team nods during her career from 2011-12 through 2014-15, becoming just the third player in school history and the 17th player in league history to achieve such a feat. She ranks third in the school record book with 1,636 career points, with a total of 32 games of 20 points or more. Fipps also rates among UC Davis career leaders in field goals made (fourth) and three-pointers made (second), among other categories, and was just the third player in Aggie history to reach her 1,000th career point before her senior season. She later went on to play professionally in Germany and Australia.

Formerly a transfer from Arizona State, Hawkins reunited with childhood friend Tyler Les to transform the UC Davis men's basketball season during his career from 2012-13 through 2014-15. He put up point totals of 569, 539 and 586 in his sophomore through senior seasons, earning such honors as Big West Newcomer of the Year (2013), CollegeInsider.com Lou Henson Mid-Major All-America (2013), NBC Sports All-America (2014) and Associated Press All-America honorable mention (2015). Hawkins also won three All-Big West nods, including Player of the Year as a senior; and twice captured the Colby E. "Babe" Slater Award as the school's male athlete of the year. He later played pro ball in the NBA G League and overseas in Belgium and Latvia.

McMahon continues to dominate the Aggie women's lacrosse record book, with such career benchmarks as 252 goals, 321 total points and 131 caused turnovers during her stay from 2004 through 2008. She remains the only player in program annals to break the double-century mark in career goals, while her single-season totals of 66, 69, 56 and 61 held the top four spots in school history until Sorana Larson broke up that superfecta this spring. McMahon won three All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation awards, including Newcomer of the Year in 2004; while capturing three All-America accolades during the program's final Division II season.

The literal and figurative center of the Aggies' offensive line during its final Division II seasons, Manfredda started 34 straight games in his career from 2001 through 2004. He earned All-Independent Football Alliance honorable mention as a sophomore in 2002, then captured All-Great West Football Conference first-team distinction as a senior co-captain two years later. Manfredda also became UC Davis' seventh all-time selection (second among O-linemen) for the East-West Shrine Game after his senior year. And while offensive lineman have no individual stats, his contributions resulted in a more important number: 31 total wins, including three in the NCAA postseason. Sadly, Manfredda passed away at the age of 38 after an accident in 2020. He will become the CAAHOF's first posthumous inductee since Vern Hickey entered the Hall in 1996.

The CAAHOF selection committee also chose a recipient for the Aggie Legacy Award, which honors former student-athletes who have gone on to outstanding careers in sports or sports-related fields. The 2021 Legacy Award winner will be announced at a later date.

The induction ceremony is open to the public. Tickets and RSVP information will be available at ucdavisaggies.com, while questions about the event may be directed to caahof@ucdavis.edu.
