HONOLULU – A leadoff single to left field from J.D. Mico in the fifth inning led to UC Davis' first run in the back-half of Saturday's Big West Conference doubleheader when he scored on a single up the middle from Jake Brandel.

After Brandel stole second, he recorded the second run of the frame on Spencer Gedestad's double down the right field line, which cut the Aggies' four-run deficit in half.

Unfortunately for UC Davis, Hawai'i tacked on an insurance run in the sixth inning and an additional pair in the seventh to win that game, 7-2, and sweep the twinbill following its 8-3 victory in the first game of the day.

UC Davis will return to Les Murakami Stadium for Sunday's 4 p.m. PT series finale with a 10-27 overall and 5-18 Big West record. Hawai'i is now 19-14 and 11-12. A live stream and live stats are available for the final game of the weekend between the Aggies and Rainbow Warriors.

Hawai'i opened the day's action by scoring a run in the first inning of the day, but it was a five-run second inning that ultimately provided all the offense the 'Bows needed to secure a victory.

UC Davis began its comeback in the fourth inning with a leadoff single from Brandel, followed by a double from Gedestad, that placed a pair of Aggies in scoring position with zero outs in the frame. A double from Conner Longrie drove in both of his teammates and trimmed their team's deficit to four runs, at 6-2, with over half the game still left to play.

UC Davis scored again in the sixth inning when Brandel scored on a UH passed ball; he initially reached base on a six-pitch walk, advanced to second on an error and reached third on a groundout to first base.

Of the six hits recorded by the Aggies in Saturday's first game, four were doubles.

Following Sunday's matchup in Honolulu, the next seven games for the Aggies will take place at Phil Swimley Field at Dobbins Stadium, starting with next Saturday's non-conference doubleheader versus San José State. This series will continue the following day with one game against the Spartans before CSUN visits campus from May 7-9 for the team's next four-game Big West series.
