Jackie Lucena finished with an even-par 72 to stand in a tie for seventh at the end of day one, while senior
Hannah Sun also earned a spot in the top 15, helping the UC Davis women's golf team to fourth place after the first 18 holes of the 2021 Big West Conference Women's Golf Championships on Monday afternoon at the Yorba Linda Country Club in Yorba Linda, Calif.
UC Irvine leads the tournament after day one, shooting a 6-under 282 to lead second-place Cal Poly by two shots, and third-place Long Beach State by nine. The Anteaters' Megan Yang opened the tournament with a 7-under 65 and leads the field by five shots.
Making her Big West Championship debut, Lucena finished with birdies on the ninth, 10th, and 17th holes, en route to her final score, carding her fifth round at par of better in her last seven rounds. Sun finished one shot back of her teammate, finishing the back nine with birdies on two of the final three holes en route to an opening round 1-over 73 and a tie for 13th
Senior
Madison Wood was also among the top 25, finishing in a tie for 21st, carding birdies on the 12th and 16th holes to end the day with a 3-over 75, as did junior
Andrea Gomez Lloret. Senior
Skyler Wood wrapped up the Aggies' scoring group with an opening round 79, standing in a tie for 37th at the end of day one.
