DAVIS, Calif. — The UC Davis beach volleyball team won four of the five matches in straight sets on Sunday afternoon, handing visiting San Jose State a 4-1 defeat and sending the Aggie seniors out with a victory at the UC Davis Beach Volleyball Courts.
Sunday's victory improved UC Davis to 7-16 overall on the season heading into next week's regular season-ending doubleheader at Sacramento State on April 24. The Spartans, who defeated the Hornets earlier in the day by a 4-1 score in Sacramento, fell to 2-3.
Senior
Heather Reed and sophomore
Megan Luly got the Aggies started off with a win, taking care of business quickly at the twos with a 21-18, 21-7, win over Siena Brewster and Letizia Cammillucci. After San Jose State tied things up with a win at the fours, UC Davis ran the table with straight set wins at the other three positions.
Paloma Bowman and
Colleen McGuire made quick work of Jaida Ward and Haylee Nelson at the ones, 21-11, 21-11, and was followed by
Alicia Letvin and
Ashlee Goycoochea, who posted a 21-17, 21-15, victory over Kacy Hele and Allison Pereira at the fives to clinch the dual.
Jane Seslar and
Madelin Smith then put a bow on Sunday's victory, posting a 21-15, 21-14, victory over Calli Novak and Kiley Lingenfelter at the threes for the final 4-1 score.
Next week's dual doubleheader at Sacramento State is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
