Seifert’s six scores swamps Ducks on the road

Junior collects the most points in a match by an MPSF player since 2017

EUGENE, Ore. — Junior Kendall Seifert finished with a double hat trick, scoring six goals an adding three assists on eight shots as part of a nine-point day, while teammates Alex Agnew and Sorana Larson scored three goals apiece, helping the UC Davis women's lacrosse team swamp host Oregon by a 19-9 score on Saturday afternoon at Papé Field in Eugene.

The Aggies won their second straight, and their fourth in their last five outings, improving to 9-4 overall on the season. The win total is the team's highest since the 2019 squad finished 9-8 overall and stand just one victory shy of double-digit triumphs for the first since since 2011 (10-5 overall).

Led by three goals apiece from Nakeeya McCardell and Hanna Hilcoff, Oregon fell to 3-9 overall, suffering its second loss at the hands of UC Davis this season and its fourth straight in the series overall.

After scoring four times and adding four assists off the bench in the Aggies' Mountain Pacific Sports Federation victory over San Diego State in their last outing on April 11, Seifert continued to torch opposing defenses, as her six goals and nine points were career highs — the latter accounting for the most points in a match by an MPSF player since 2017 — while the six goals tied Larson's output against the Ducks in the first meeting between the two teams this season on Feb. 21 at home.

Agnew's hat trick was her fifth of the year, while Larson picked up her team-high ninth of the season, both adding a pair of assists for five-point days.

Defensively, sophomore goalkeeper Ashley Laing went the distance, racking up a career-high 15 saves just one game after putting up 12 stops in the win over the Aztecs. Anna Belenis finished with four ground balls, while reigning MPSF Defensive Player of the Week Ally Deremer and Julie Byrne added a pair of caused turnovers in Saturday's victory.

The Aggies fell behind early after McCardell scored back-to-back goals four minutes apart for a 2-0 Oregon advantage. That would be it for a while for the Ducks as Kaley Stunz scored at the 22:31 mark and UC Davis was off to the races, scoring the final 12 goals of the half to go up 12-2 at the break.

Seifert scored three unanswered goals after Stunz's score, and added her fourth after goals by Lily Manos (her first career goal) and Larson, who added her second just 30 seconds later and completed her hat trick after Maddie Myers found the back of the net for the first time with 9:23 to play. Agnew and Katie Graham closed out the run before the halftime horn, playing the final 2:15 of the period with a running clock.

The Ducks made adjustments at the break and came out of halftime firing, scoring three straight — and six of the first eight — to start the second half, but the Aggies kept their hosts at sticks length, closing the match strong with five of the final six scores of the day en route to the victory.

Oregon out-shot UC Davis, 41-30, for the match, but were able to put only 24 of those on frame compared to 26 for the Aggies. Myers and Deremer finished with seven and six draw controls, respectively, helping UC Davis to a 16-15 advantage in that category, while the Aggies were able to convert on five of their seven eight-meter attempts, compared to just 4-of-10 in the category for the Ducks.

UC Davis closes out its 2021 home schedule on Thursday (April 22), taking on California for a third time this season. Opening draw at UC Davis Health Stadium is scheduled for 5 p.m.
