SAN DIEGO – UC Davis jumped out to an early 1-0 overall lead following doubles victories from Davis Goulak/Ivan Thamma and Mitchell Davis/Andrei Volgin in Friday's non-conference match at the Aztec Tennis Courts in San Diego.

For Davis and Volgin, that result improved their record to a perfect 5-0 this season, with four of those victories earned at the No. 2 position.

What started in the doubles round for UC Davis carried over into singles play when Volgin and Arjith Jayaraman recorded straight-set results in their respective matchups against Rafael Gonzalez and Judson Blair. Since they were among the first three singles matches to finish, their individual victories gave their team a 3-1 lead with three Aggies still in action.

Even though he fell in the first set by a 6-2 score, Andras Necz recorded the match-winning victory by taking the next two sets, 6-4 and 7-5, to help UC Davis clinch its second victory of the season, thanks to a 4-2 overall score that pushed each team's overall record to 2-4.

The Aggies' San Diego road trip will continue on Saturday when it faces Point Loma in an 11 a.m. dual and conclude on Sunday with their 11 a.m. Big West opener at UC San Diego.
