STANFORD, Calif. – Even though UC Davis did not win the doubles point during Tuesday's non-conference match at the Taube Family Tennis Center, a highly-competitive singles round took place with three of six matchups needing a third set to determine a victor.
After
Ivan Thamma won the first set of his singles match against Arthur Fery, the No. 95-ranked player in the nation took the second set by a 6-1 score. A back-and-forth battle ensued throughout the decisive set, one that saw Fery edge him, 6-4.
Andras Necz may have dropped the first set of his singles contest, but he rebounded in spectacular fashion by winning the next set by an identical score. Unfortunately for the sophomore Aggie, Neel Rajesh won the third set, 10-6, since the overall result of the dual took place before action ended on his court.
Chethan Swanson was another Aggie who pushed his opponent to the limit: Following a 6-2 first set victory, Sangeet Sridhar took the next two by respective scores of 6-3 and 6-4.
By sweeping the singles round and winning the doubles point, Stanford picked up a 7-0 victory in this season's Farm vs. Farm matchup. UC Davis will now return home for its next two duals, starting with Friday's 10 a.m. contest vs. Utah, and will return to action with a 6-5 overall record.
The Cardinal will continue their season at 4-3.
Following Friday's UC Davis-Utah matchup, the Aggies will return to Big West Conference action when UC Santa Barbara visits the Marya Welch Tennis Center for Sunday's 12 p.m. dual.
