DAVIS, Calif. – UC Davis has played in four duals this season, and will nearly match that total this week with a busy schedule featuring three local teams. After opening the week on Tuesday at Stanford, the Aggies will host San José State on Friday before wrapping-up the week at Saint Mary's on Saturday.
When women's tennis heads to Palo Alto, it will face a team that won its only match of the year, which took place last Friday at home against Santa Clara.
Featured throughout the Cardinal's lineup are four ranked singles players in Michaele Gordon (ranked No. 10), Angelica Blake (No. 58), Emily Arbuthnott (No. 63) and Janice Shin (No. 114). Arbuthnott and Blake comprise one of two ranked doubles teams; they will enter this match ranked No. 9 in the country with teammates Sara Choi and Emma Higuchi at No. 32.
UC Davis is the second Big West team that San José State will face throughout its non-conference schedule after defeating UC Irvine in its season opener, 4-1. Following that result, the Spartans shutout Sacramento State, 4-0, and earned a pair of 4-3 victories versus San Francisco and Santa Clara.
The Spartans' lineup features three players who are undefeated in singles play this season: Jovana Babic collected all three wins at No. 6 Lara Marco Mas collected victories at No. 5 and No. 6, and Irene Muradyan's results were earned at No. 3 (three wins) and No. 5 (one win).
Since its last two duals were canceled, Saturday's dual in Moraga is Saint Mary's first since sweeping Sacramento State on Feb. 12. That was the team's first victory of the year, which followed losses against Pac-12 competition in Cal and USC.
The Aggies will look to snap the Gaels' seven-match series win streak, something that nearly took place in Davis last year as SMC came-from-behind to turn a 3-2 deficit into a 4-3 narrow victory.
