BERKELEY, Calif. — Opening its 2021 season on the road against a top-10 opponent, the UC Davis beach volleyball squad was felled by No. 9 California, 5-0, on Saturday afternoon at the Clark Kerr Sand Courts in Berkeley, Calif.
The Aggies fall to 0-1 on the year, while the Golden Bears improve to 2-0. Cal swept all 10 sets en route to the victory, winning for the fourth time in the series.
UC Davis' duo of
Alexa Rockas and
Jane Seslar came the closest to taking a set from the powerhouse Golden Bears, who finished 9-1 a season ago, coming within four points in the opening set against Kate Bierly and Maya Gessner before falling 21-17, 21-14.
Remaining on the road to start the year, the Aggies make a return trip to the Bay Area for a doubleheader in Stanford, Calif., taking on Saint Mary's and the host Cardinal on March 6 beginning at Noon.
