Aggies finish third at MPSF Championships

UC Davis, conference congratulates head coach Barbara Jahn in her final meet

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- The relay foursome of Dani Fasan, Anna Lee, Kailee Ruiz and Mia Motekaitis finished third in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of three minutes, 25.48 seconds, wrapping up action at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation swimming and diving championships at Cal Poly's Anderson Aquatic Center Saturday afternoon.

The Aggies placed third in the meet with 575 points, holding off a late surge from UC Santa Barbara, which finished fourth at 530. Hawai'i captured its fifth consecutive conference title with a 794.5 total, with BYU in second at 727.5.

Lee and senior Kathryn Bockman enjoyed UC Davis' top individual finishes on Saturday. Lee hit a personal-best 51.31 in the 100 freestyle, eclipsing the 51.99 she posted at the MPSF meet one year ago. Bockman touched home in the 1,650 free with a 17:44.30 time. Freshman Elle Motekaitis added seventh-place scoring in the midle (17:49.82), while sophomore Sophia Sebastian matched that finish in the 200 breaststroke (2:19.57). Yet another sophomore, Jay Jay Eaton, then collected another seventh to lead the Aggies in the 200 fly, thanks to a PR of 2:05.82.

The MPSF Championships concluded a shortened season for UC Davis swimming & diving, and marked the final meet for head coach Barbara Jah, who announced her retirement after 46 years at the helm. This was also the first MPSF championship meet to be held outdoors, and the first to consist of finals only rather than the traditional prelims-finals format.
