C.J. Hutton caught a 16-yard touchdown pass from
Hunter Rodrigues with 1:41 to go but UC Davis fell in the 2021 edition of the Causeway Classic at UC Davis Health Stadium 27-7 to Sacramento State.
The 68th meeting all-time between the two teams, the Aggies were led defensively by
Chris Venable's seven solo tackles.
Bryce Rodgers had one tackle for loss and
Josiah Suani had his first sack of the season. UC Davis also got forced fumbles from
Da'Von Frazier and
Jordan Perryman.
Hutton's touchdown reception was his third of the season. Ulonzo Gilliam Jr. rushed eight times for 58 yards, giving him 3,362 in his career.
The regular season finale now concluded, UC Davis will now await the decision of the NCAA playoff committee. The 2021 FCS football championship selection show is slated for 9:30 p.m. PST on Sunday and will be broadcast on ESPNU.
