NEWS & NOTABLES: The five-time defending Big West Conference champion UC Davis women's basketball team hits the hardwood for the first time in 2021-22, welcoming Cal State East Bay for an exhibition on Monday night at 6 p.m. Led by five-time Big West Coach of the Year
Jennifer Gross and her staff, the Aggies return nearly their entire roster that clinched the program's sixth conference regular season title last season, including reigning Big West Player of the Year Cierra Hall and Big West Defensive Player of the Year Sage Stobbart.Â

NEWS & NOTABLES: A win over Causeway rival Sacramento State in the regular season finale was enough to lift the UC Davis men's soccer team into the postseason, as the Aggies qualified for their 10th consecutive Big West Conference Tournament with a 2-1 triumph over the Hornets on goals by
Kaleb Schirmacher (43') and
Robert Mejia (54') in front of a vociferous crowd of 869 at Aggie Soccer Field. UC Davis is the No. 5 seed and takes on No. 4-seeded CSU Bakersfield on Wednesday (Nov. 3) at 6 p.m. on the road. The winner is slated to take on top-seeded UC Santa Barbara in the semifinals on Saturday (Nov. 6) at 7 p.m. in Santa Barbara. The defending Big West Tournament champions, UC Davis is a combined 7-6-4 all-time in the conference tournament and 2-4-3 on the road, including a 3-1-1 mark in first-round matches. The Aggies have reached the championship match in each of the last three seasons and has not lost a first-round match since 2014.

NEWS & NOTABLES: The Aggies return to the saddle for the first time in a month this week, welcoming SMU – which was ranked as high as No. 3 in the nation in the preseason poll – to the UC Davis Equestrian Center on Thursday (Nov. 4) at 10 a.m. to close out a run of three consecutive home meets to start the year. UC Davis has split its first two meets to open the 2021-22 campaign, posting an 11-6 win over No. 9 South Carolina back on Sept. 30, before being edged-out by No. 6 TCU, 11-9, on Oct. 3 as the Aggies finished with three Most Outstanding Performance awards against the Horned Frogs in

NEWS & NOTABLES: UC Davis is in the driver's seat in the Western Water Polo Association, entering the week as the lone remaining unbeaten team at 6-0 and holding a one-game lead over second-place Loyola Marymount – which the Aggies face on Thursday (Nov. 4) at 6 p.m. A win Thursday and UC Davis wraps up its sixth WWPA crown overall (1996, 1997, 2016, 2017, 2019) and its fourth in the last six seasons with only Saturday's match against UC San Diego left on the league slate. Fresh off a heart-breaking 13-12 defeat to No. 10 Pepperdine in "sudden victory" – their fourth overtime match of the year and their third to end in "sudden victory" this season – the Aggies have won their last 13 consecutive WWPA matches dating back to a 10-8 loss to the Tritons on Nov. 3, 2018. UC Davis has won the last nine meetings in the series with LMU in a streak that dates back to 2015 and two straight against UCSD.

NEWS & NOTABLES: Coming off its third straight week with a split in Big West Conference play, the UC Davis women's volleyball team welcomes league newcomer UC San Diego and UC Irvine to the University Credit Union Center this week as the second half of league play rolls on. Saturday's match against the Anteaters will be "Senior Night" for the Aggies, who will honor
Rachel Churilla and
Jane Seslar prior to first serve for their contributions to the program. UC Davis opened last week with its second consecutive sweep, taking down visiting UC Riverside in three, before heading to the islands and falling in three games to host Hawai'I in Honolulu. The Aggies served up 12 aces in the win over the Highlanders, with six of those coming from sophomore
Shira Lahav, as UC Davis posted its highest team total in that category since 2015. Sophomore
Demari Webb finished with a match-high 11 kills against UC Riverside and freshman
Olivia Utterback did the same against the Rainbow Wahine, adding five blocks.

NEWS & NOTABLES: The final tournament of the fall takes the UC Davis men's tennis team south to Stockton, Calif., this weekend as the Aggies compete at the Pacific Invitational. It will be the first action for UC Davis in a couple of weeks after the bulk of the team competed at the ITA Northwest Regional in Moraga and freshmen
Ryan Torres and
Ryan Morgan fell in the round of 16 of doubles play at the ITA Northwest Super Regional in Seattle after reaching the finals of the regionals at Saint Mary's the week prior.

NEWS & NOTABLES: The Aggies are a top-eight team in the nation without having to take the field last week, moving up to No. 7 in the country according to the AFCA Coaches poll and No. 8 in the nation according to the STATS Perform FCS national poll. This week, UC Davis takes its 7-1 record (4-1 in Big Sky play) to altitude to take on Northern Arizona on Saturday (Nov. 6) at 1 p.m. PT, with the Lumberjacks coming off a 38-31 win over Idaho. The Aggies, meanwhile, are well-rested following their 24-13 victory over Cal Poly in the "Battle for the Golden Horseshoe" on Oct. 23, a game that saw running back Ulonzo Gilliam, Jr., claim his 21st career 100-yard rushing game and quarterback Miles Hastings complete 20 consecutive passes en route to finishing 28-for-34 for 210 yards and two touchdowns. Wideout Jared Harrell also went over 2,000 career receiving yards, becoming just the ninth Aggie to do so in program history. Defensively, Cam Trimble led the unit with nine tackles, including a sack, while Jaylin White picked off his team-high third interception of the year – giving UC Davis 13 on the season as a team, ranking the Aggies No. 3 in the nation in that category and helping them to a No. 5 national ranking in turnover margin.
