NEWS & NOTABLES: The 67th Causeway Classic comes to Davis for the 2021 regular season finale with postseason implications on the line for both teams as the Aggies and Hornets line up for one of the biggest rivalry meetings in the history of the series, both jockeying for playoff positioning and possible seeds in the 24-team bracket that begins play on Nov. 27. UC Davis is ranked No. 11 in the nation according to the coaches poll and No. 10 in the STATS Perform Top 25 – just one spot ahead of Sacramento State in the latter. The Aggies lead the all-time series with the Hornets, 46-21, dating back to 1954, but Sacramento State has won two of the last three meetings, including a 27-17 victory in 2019. UC Davis has won three of the last four games played in Davis, including a 48-30 shootout in 2016 (the 2018 game was supposed to be played at UC Davis Health Stadium, but heavy smoke from Northern California wildfires forced that game to be moved to Nevada's Mackay Stadium in Reno, a game won by the Aggies, 56-13). With 16 wins between the two teams, it marks the most combined wins between the two teams at the time of the matchup since 1985, when an 8-1 UC Davis squad defeated an 8-2 Sacramento State team, 37-30
