DAVIS, Calif. -- Senior Sage Stobbart set a program Division I era single-game record with 16 rebounds to go with four blocks and a pair of steals, while second year sophomore Evanne Turner led the Aggies with 18 points, including five three-pointers, but Saint Mary's Taycee Wedin drained a three-pointer with less that 10 seconds remaining, lifting the visiting Gaels to the 52-50 victory over UC Davis on Saturday afternoon.
The Aggies fell to 1-1 overall with the loss, leading by as many as 11 points in the third quarter before Saint Mary's began its comeback. The Gaels improved to 2-0 with the win behind Wedin's 17 points, and triumphed despite shooting just 31 percent from the field for the game.
Stobbart's 16 rebounds were a career high and broke the program's previous Division I record of 15 set by Celia Marfone against UC Riverside in 2014, and matched by Marfone against UC Irvine in 2016. Stobbart's previous best was 13 rebounds at Hawai'i last season.
Turner's 18 points came on 6-of-10 from the field -- including five three-pointers -- while teammate Cierra Hall finished with 12 points, five rebounds, and four assists.
UC Davis hits the road for the first time this season next week, heading to the Bay Area to take on San Francisco on Thursday (Nov. 18) at 5 p.m.
