Aggies fall in Thursday clash with the Titans

UC Davis posts fifth match this year with at least 20 shots

FULLERTON, Calif. — The UC Davis offense peppered the Cal State Fullerton goal to the tune of 20 shots on the night — including putting eight of those attempts on frame — but the host Titans scored just before the half and added two more scores in the second period en route to a 3-0 Big West Conference victory on Thursday night at Titan Stadium.

The Aggies fell to 8-5 overall and 3-2 in conference play following the match, holding a 20-14 shot advantage overall with a team-high five of those attempts coming off the feet of sophomore Leslie Fregoso.

UC Davis' 20 shot attempts marked the fifth time this season that the Aggies have collected at least that many in a single match this year and were the most since putting up 23 at CSU Bakersfield on Sept. 23.

Fullerton, which improved to 5-9 overall and 2-3 in league with the win, got a pair of goals from Callie Petrey-Juarez and a goal and an assist from Kaya Hawkinson. Petrey-Juarez put the Titans on the board with her sixth of the year with 1:52 remaining in the first half, adding a second in the 68th minute to cap the scoring.

Those two goals sandwiched a score by Hawkinson in the 56th minute, converting a penalty from the spot to give Fullerton some breathing room.

UC Davis wraps up its Southern California trip on Sunday (Oct. 10) at 2 p.m., traveling to UC Riverside.
