DAVIS, Calif. - The Aggies kicked off their fall tournament slate this weekend putting on the Aggie Invitational and playing host to athletes from Santa Clara, Nevada, Sacramento State, Saint Mary's, and Pacific.
Junior Andrei Volgin advanced to the final in the blue draw before falling to Santa Clara's Mann Shah 7-6, 6-4. Mitchell Davis won the red draw final over teammate Ryan Morgan 6-3, 6-1. It was an almost exclusively UC Davis semi-final round in the red draw as Morgan advanced to the final 6-3, 6-3 over Brett Brinkman and Davis advanced after Pacific's Brandon Park withdrew due to injury.
Freshman Cory Pham took the final of the green draw over Sacramento State's Rudolfs Aksnoks 6-4, 6-3.
Volgin and Davis teamed up in the open doubles blue draw to advance to the final, falling 9-8 (5) to the Sacramento State duo of Mate Voros and Jan Silva. Coleton Hootman and Andras Necz also advanced to a final, falling in the white draw to Nevada's Daniel Dudockin and Satchel Benn 8-6.
The Aggies are headed to thinner air next weekend as UC Davis travels to Reno for the Nevada Fall Tournament Oct. 8-10.
