FULLERTON, Calif. -- Freshman
Amara Aimufua collected a career-high 20 kills while
Shira Lahav scooped up a career-best 27 digs defensively on Friday night, but UC Davis couldn't overcome three Titans with double-digit kills, helping lift host Cal State Fullerton to a 3-1 (25-21, 23-25, 25-23, 25-11) victory in Southern California.
The loss dropped the Aggies to 6-14 overall and 2-7 in league play, while the Titans improved to 7-9 overall and 4-5 in Big West action with the win.
Aimufua became the first UC Davis player to reach the 20-kill plateau this season and the first since Lauren Matias finished with 24 kills in a four-set battle with Fullerton on Nov. 5, 2019. Friday marked the freshman's third straight match with 10-or-more kills and the 12th double-digit kill performance of the season, surpassing her previous career best of 19 kills at UC Riverside on Sept. 21.
Lahav's career night marked her 11th career double-digit dig performance, finishing as one of three Aggies with 10-or-more digs against the Titans. The 27 digs surpassed her previous high of 25 against Fullerton on Nov. 5, 2019, and was her third match with 20-or-more digs this season, besting her previous season high of 23 against California on Sept. 16.
Freshman
Olivia Utterback added a career-high 19 digs to go with nine kills, while sophomore
Perri Starkey added another 12 digs, falling just one shy of her career high set at UC San Diego.
UC Davis' offense was limited to a .154 hitting percentage on the night, while Cal State Fullerton hit .290, committing just 13 errors for the match.
The Aggies look to bounce back on Saturday (Oct. 23), wrapping up their Southern California road swing at Long Beach State. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
