Aggies swamped at No. 4 Stanford

UC Davis hosts WWPA rivals Air Force and Biola on Oct. 22

STANFORD, Calif. -- Michael Plastino scored the Aggies' lone goal of the day midway through the second quarter on Sunday to stop a 4-0 run by host Stanford, but the No. 4 Cardinal were too efficient, posting a 13-1 victory over No. 8 UC Davis at the Avery Aquatic Center.

The defeat ended the Aggies' run of four straight victories as they fell to 12-6 overall on the season in their fifth match against a top-five opponent this year. Stanford improved to 14-3 overall with the victory.

Plastino, who scored three goals and added a pair of assists in Saturday's win at Western Water Polo Association rival Fresno Pacific, opened the second quarter by finding the back of the cage off a feed from Spencer Towill that made it 4-1, but the Cardinal defense would allow no more.

Stanford finished the match on a 9-0 run, shooting 52 percent for the day en route to the win.

After playing its last nine matches away from home, UC Davis will not leave the friendly confines of the Schaal Aquatics Center for the remainder of the year, opening a run of six straight home contests to close out the regular season on Friday (Oct. 22) with a doubleheader against WWPA rivals Air Force and newcomer Biola at Noon and 6 p.m., respectively.

Following the regular season, the Aggies will host the 2021 WWPA Championships, scheduled to run from Nov. 19-21.
