DAVIS, Calif. – Three teams posted a perfect multi-year score of 1,000, and no Big West Conference institution recorded more top figures than UC Davis when the NCAA released this year's Academic Progress Rate report to the public on Tuesday.
Of the 18 sports sponsored by the BWC, no member held more No. 1 figures than the fifth-ranked public school in the nation and its seven. UC Davis' list of teams included baseball, men's soccer, men's track & field, women's basketball, women's cross country, women's golf and women's water polo.
Of that group, women's cross country, women's golf and women's tennis also earned Public Recognition Awards since their perfect APR score (1,000) placed each within the top 10 percent of their sport. UC Davis' number of Public Recognition Awards now stands at 40, which includes a league-high 33 from teams that compete in the Big West.
Women's tennis posted a perfect multi-year Academic Progress Rate score (1,000) for the 12th time in program history when the NCAA released its latest report — the highest total earned by any Big West men's or women's program.
This year's APR report also featured eight UC Davis programs responsible for their conference's second-highest APR score. Men's basketball, men's golf, men's tennis and women's soccer are Big West teams that comprise this list; field hockey competes in the America East Conference; football is an associate member of the Big Sky Conference; the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation sponsors women's lacrosse and women's swimming & diving.
Since joining the Big Sky in 2012, football recorded one of the league's top two multi-year APR scores in each year, including the No. 1 result on six occasions.
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each recruited student-athlete. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention rate and graduation to provide a measure of each team's academic performance.
In this team-based metric, scholarship student-athletes earn one point each term for remaining eligible and one point for staying in school or graduating. Schools that do not offer scholarships track their recruited student-athletes.
This year's APR report features scores based on results from the 2015-16 through 2018-19 academic years.
