Aggies rally late to beat Bison in Saturday split

Rojas sisters total three homers in opener vs. ECU

FRESNO, Calif. -- Catcher Riley Siegel and designated player Megan Bower each had RBI hits in a four-run sixth while senior right-hander Katie Kibby scattered just four hits in a complete-game win, leading UC Davis to a 4-1 victory over North Dakota State as part of a Saturday split during the Bulldog Classic softball tournament at Margie Wright Diamond.

The Aggies lost their morning game, 15-4, to East Carolina. They finish the day with a 15-11 overall record.

Kibby gave up a two-out solo shot by NDSU designated player Cara Beatty in the first but settled down to keep the Bison with just that run for the remainder.  UC Davis managed just three hits until that pivotal sixth. Sommer Kisling's double began a three-hit, four-run rally. Siegel had an RBI single and Bower an RBI double in that frame, while Marisa Given plated Siegel with her sacrifice fly to left.

Kising, Siegel and Bower each went 2-for-3 during the win over the Bison. Kibby struck out three batters and walked just two in picking up her seventh win of the year, and 45th of her career.

In Saturday's opener, the Pirates moved eight runs in the second and seven in the fifth, with a grand slam by freshman left fielder Sydney Yoder invoking the eight-run rule in that final inning.

First baseman Maddie Rojas hit a pair of solo homers while younger sister Alyse Rojas added a solo shot of her own in the third inning to highlight the Aggie bats. Each had two RBIs for the game, with Given and center fielder Marissa Jauregui splitting the remainder of the six UC Davis hits.

UC Davis completes its visit to the Bulldog Classic with an 11:30 a.m. game against host Fresno State on Sunday.
