FRESNO, Calif. -- Junior left fielder
Alyse Rojas delivered an RBI double in the second inning and senior shortstop
Isabella Leon launched a solo homer in the seventh, but a three-run blast by Fresno State senior shortstop Schuyler Broussard left UC Davis with a 3-2 setback to the tournament hosts on the final day of the Bulldog Classic softball tournament Sunday.
The Aggies fall to 15-12 for the year, going 3-2 at the tourney. The 25th-ranked Bulldogs improve to 21-4.
Oddly, UC Davis outhit Fresno State by a 5-2 margin, with Sommer Kissling,
Riley Siegel and
Megan Bower collecting base hits for the game. Senior
Katie Kibby allowed the two hits and struck out five, moving to 7-5 for the year with the loss.
The Aggies drew first blood in the second when
Alyse Rojas roped the first pitch off junior Hailey Dolcini to bring in
Sarah Starks, who led off the frame with a walk.Â
Meanwhile, Kibby was perfect through the first three innings before giving up the three-run homer in the fourth. Center fielder Katilyn Jennings walked and second baseman Miranda Rohleder was hit by a pitch to set the table for Broussard. Kibby only allowed one walk and one hit the rest of the way.
Sommer Kisling led off the fifth with a double but was stranded their as Dolcini fanned the side. Similarly, Leon's homer halved the deficit to a single run, but Dolcini struck out the other three Aggie batters she faced in that inning to finish off the win. Dolcini struck out 14 total UC Davis hitters to improve to 10-1 for the year.
The Aggies return to action on Tuesday for a 4 p.m. home game against Pacific.Â
