Aggies pile up season-high 15 runs to take series from Mount St. Mary's

DAVIS, Calif. - Freshman Nick Iverson and junior design major Tanner Murray each racked up three RBIs to help lead the UC Davis Aggies past the Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers 15-3 on Saturday.

Sophomore Nolan Meredith (1-1) got the win for UC Davis (9-6). The right-hander went 5.1 innings, giving up three runs, one earned, on four hits, allowing two walks and striking out three. Freshman managerial economics major Zach Carrell also pitched well, going 1.2 shutout innings without allowing a hit, walking none and striking out two.

Murray went 4-for-5 at the plate with a triple in addition to his three RBIs and Iverson put together a 1-for-4 day, supplementing his three RBI performance for the Aggies. Junior mechanical engineering major Spencer Gedestad compiled a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 4-for-5 with an RBI.

The Aggies got on the board immediately, starting their scoring in the first inning. UC Davis' offense started clicking and put up four runs, including a one-run groundout off the bat of Iverson.

The Mountaineers failed to push any runs across before the Aggies offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. The UC Davis offense exploded for seven runs, highlighted by a three-run triple off the bat of Murray, which brought the Aggies lead to 11-0.

UC Davis held Mount St. Mary's without a run before expanding their lead to 13-0 the following inning. The Aggies scored two runs when a single from Iverson scored Gedestad and freshman applied physics major Mike Campagna.

The Mountaineers fought back, closing the gap to 13-3 until UC Davis added some insurance in the sixth. Sophomore Jalen Smith's run-scoring single brought home one run in a two-run output for the Aggies, bringing the UC Davis advantage to 15-3. The score remained 15-3 for the rest of the game, as the Aggies coasted to the win.

» Murray and Iverson drove in three runs each for the Aggies.

Next up for UC Davis is a matchup on March 10 at 3 p.m. at Saint Mary's.
