NORTHRIDGE, Calif. — Freshman
Evanne Turner exploded in the second half Thursday night, scoring 14 of her career-high 21 points in the second half to lead three Aggies in double figures, while junior MacKenzie Trpcic tied her UC Davis career high with 10 assists en route to a 71-58 victory over CSUN at The Matadome.
The Aggies moved to 17-11 overall and 12-3 in the Big West Conference, shooting 42 percent from the field and dishing out 21 assists on 25 makes for the game.
Led by 19 points from Jordyn Jackson, the Matadors fell to 11-18 overall and 6-9 in league play.
UC Davis led by only one at the break despite going up by as many as 13 points in the first half, but trailed by a point twice in the early part of the third quarter before a 15-0 run gave the Aggies some breathing room. Turner was the catalyst in the period, scoring 11 of her 14 second-half points in that third quarter.
The Aggies led by as many as 15 points in the third, allowing CSUN to come no closer than eight points with 1:33 remaining in the period, and opened the fourth by scoring seven of the first nine points in the quarter to build a 16-point lead and never look back.
Sophomore
Sage Stobbart added 13 points and a team-high seven rebounds to go with a pair of steals and three blocks, while junior
Cierra Hall added 10 points, five rebounds, and four steals. Meanwhile, Trpcic's 10 assists matched her career best set against Sacramento State earlier this year.
In addition to her career-high point total, Turner also added career high's in steals (three), field goals made (six), and free throws (four), while tying her career best with five three-pointers made.
UC Davis closes out the regular season on Saturday (March 7) at 4 p.m., taking on Long Beach State at the Walter Pyramid.
