HARRISON, N.J. – Selected by the New York Red Bulls with the 36th overall pick in the 2020 Major League Soccer SuperDraft, 2019 Big West Conference Goalkeeper of the Year Wallis Lapsley signed a USL Championship contract with New York Red Bulls II.

The Seattle native will compete alongside a familiar face when the 2020 season begins on March 7; NYRB II is the club two-time Big West Defensive Player of the Year Roy Boateng signed with nearly one year ago to the day (March 7, 2019).

"We are excited to add Wallis to the club. He impressed us with what we have seen on the field," said Head Coach John Wolyniec for the club's official announcement. "He is a determined and motivated player, who is really trying to improve and continues to show that he can up his game."

As a senior at UC Davis, Lapsley played a key role in the Aggies' historic 2019 season, one that included Big West regular season and conference tournament titles. After earning the league's NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship automatic bid, UC Davis entered postseason play as the event's No. 14 seed.

In addition to hosting a Second Round game at Aggie Soccer Field, for the first time in program history, UC Davis ended the 2019 season ranked in all three national polls.

When he graduated from the fifth-ranked public school in the nation with a degree in global disease biology, he also ended his college career as the program's all-time record holder in wins (35), save percentage (.784) and shutouts (21). With Lapsley in goal, the Aggies advanced to the Big West Tournament Championship in each of his final three seasons.

Shortly after he was drafted, Lapsley competed with the first team in preseason camps that took place in Bradenton, Fla., and Tucson, Ariz.
