New NCAA recommendation leads to updated home event procedures

UPDATE 3.12.20: The information in this press release has been superseded by the decision to suspend the university's remaining winter and spring sports until further notice.

DAVIS, Calif. –
In order to protect at-risk individuals and minimize the spread of the coronavirus, attendance at UC Davis home events will be limited to essential personnel and a student-athlete pass list starting Thursday, March 12. UC Davis Intercollegiate Athletics created this precautionary policy out of an abundance of caution through discussions with campus administration and recommendations from the NCAA.

Fans who purchased tickets to Friday's gymnastics meet vs. Cal, or this weekend's three-game softball series against CSU Bakersfield, can request a refund by contacting the UC Davis Athletics Ticket office at (530) 752-2471, or by e-mail at aggietickets@ucdavis.edu.

To prevent transmission of COVID-19, University officials took several proactive steps to limit the transmission of this virus, including canceling in-person final exams for winter quarter, seeking alternative options for instruction and finals, incorporating programs such as Zoom and FaceTime to communicate with students, limiting non-essential travel, and encouraging staff and employees to work remotely.

A complete list of updated campus directives, created to minimize face-to-face contact, is available here.

Community members are encouraged to follow CDC guidelines for good hygiene and incorporate the following steps to protect themselves and others from COVID-19 and other germs:
  • Wash your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue or your elbow.
  • Stay home if you are sick or have chronic breathing problems (including asthma, COPD, or emphysema).
UCDavisAggies.com and UC Davis Athletics' Twitter feed will provide up-to-date information about this rapidly evolving and fluid situation throughout the upcoming weeks.
