EUGENE, Ore. — Senior
Maddie Myers peppered the Oregon net to the tune of five goals on the day, while senior teammate
Sorana Larson also added a hat trick, lifting the UC Davis women's lacrosse team to its second win over a Pac-12 Conference opponent this season, downing host Oregon by a 14-8 score on Sunday afternoon at Pape Field in Eugene.
The Aggies evened their record at 2-2 overall on the season as they closed out a run of four straight matches against Pac-12 rivals and won their second straight meeting with the Ducks in the series.
Led by two goals apiece from Shonly Wallace and Carlie Leach, Oregon fell to 1-4 overall on the season.
Myers, who has at least one point in each of the team's four contests this season, helped UC Davis to a season high goal total, completing her hat trick with three goals in the first half before wrapping up her day with goals at 27:24 and 3:42 of the second half. For good measure, she added her third assist of the season on Larson's goal that opened the scoring in the second period.
The Walnut Creek, Calif., native now has a team-high 13 goals and 16 points, shooting 52 percent on the season.
Larson's first goal of the day just four-and-a-half minutes into the game gave the Aggies the lead for good, part of a 5-0 run that staked the visitors to a 6-1 lead midway through the half. The Ducks answered with a 3-0 run and closed to within two goals twice in the first 30 minutes, with Larson netting UC Davis' eighth goal of the period on her second of the day en route to an 8-6 lead at the break.
The Ellicott City, Md., native, who added a pair of assists on Sunday, now ranks second on the team in goals (nine) and points (14) on 21 shots.
The Aggies then turned up the heat in the second half, limiting the Ducks to just a pair of goals while forcing Oregon into 12 second-half turnovers in the period and 21 overall for the game. A 3-0 burst midway through the period put the game out of reach as senior
Kate Graham, sophomore
Kendall Seifert, and junior
Kaley Stunz, each found the back of the net for a 13-7 advantage.
Junior
Ally Deremer and goalkeeper
Taylor Mathieson finished with four ground balls apiece, while the latter matched her season-high with 10 saves on the day to stun the Duck offense. Junior
Mar Alvear finished with five draw controls.
Seifert scored twice as did Stunz — the first two of her career — with Graham and freshman
Alex Agnew also contributing goals. UC Davis out-shot Oregon, 38-27, for the match, putting 25 of those attempts on goal.
The Aggies open a run of three straight matches at home on Sunday (March 8), welcoming No. 25 Georgetown to UC Davis Health Stadium for a 3 p.m. first draw.
