Aggies edge Utah in Saturday split

Seslar and Bowman put the Aggies on top against the Utes

BERKELEY, Calif. — The Aggies' No. 1 pair of Jane Seslar and Paloma Bowman won their match at the top of the lineup in straight sets, pushing the UC Davis women's beach volleyball team to a 3-2 victory over Utah, earning a split of its duals against a pair of Pac-12 Conference opponents on Saturday afternoon in Berkeley, Calif.

With the win Saturday, the Aggies improved to 2-3 overall on the year, falling to 11th-ranked California, 5-0, earlier in the day before sinking the Utes. Seslar and Bowman defeated Utah's McKenna Granato and Tiyana Hallums, 21-12, 21-13, to earn their first victory at the No. 1 spot in the lineup this season.

The tandem of Heather Reed and Megan Luly improved to 3-2 this year with a 21-12, 21-16, win over Madelyn Robinson and Keana Smalls, while Demari Webb and Madelin Smith moved to 2-1 on the year by outlasting Leah Schmitt and Olivia Teerlink in three sets, 21-14, 18-21, 15-7.

UC Davis opens a four-match home stand on Saturday (March 7) as the Aggies host San Jose State for the second meeting between the two teams this season, before Stephen F. Austin and Arizona come to town on March 11, and San Francisco visits on March 14.
