Aggies climb in team standings for third straight day at MPSF

Monterey Park/Mission Viejo, Calif. - UC Davis climbed in the team standings at the MPSF Championships for the third straight day and the Aggies now sit in fourth overall heading into the final day of competition.

The Aggies are just 27 points behind third place UC San Diego.

Ashley Ma kicked off Friday night's finals swims in impressive fashion in the 100 Fly, swimming a lifetime PR 54.20 for third place and a new team-leading mark. Jay Jay Eaton swam 54.71 for 6th in the same 'A' final. Ma and Eaton qualified for the final with identical 54.61 swims in the morning prelims. Amanda Wilson swam a huge season PR of 56.64 in the morning prelims but did not make the evening finals.

In the 'B' final of the 100 Fly, Cora McClelland swam a new lifetime best of 55.10 for second, Ashleen O'Brien went 55.65 for 5th and Anna Lee 57.17 for eighth.

In the 400 IM, Kyla Leacox smashed her own team-leading mark by nearly eight seconds by swimming 4:24.94 for seventh in the 'A' final. Leacox' finals time is only bettered on the Aggies by her own Friday prelims time of 4:21.62. Olivia Greenberg followed by swimming a new PR 4:32.23 in the 'C' final. Greenberg dropped over eight seconds from her 4:40.79 swim in the morning prelims.

Jamie Pincin placed seventh in the 200 Free 'A' final in 1:51.10, a new team-best mark while Kathryn Bockman came within a second of her season-best with a 1:53.86 swim in the 'C' final. Anna Lee joined Bockman in that final, going 1:57.85 but swam a new season-best time of 1:53.47 in the morning prelims. Wilson set another season-best in the 200 Free with a 1:54.12 effort but did not make the final.

Olivia Smith did not count towards the morning results but swam a new PR and team-leading time of 1:51.01 in the 200 Free.

The Aggies moved on to the 100 Breast where Mia Facey swam 1:04.17 for fourth in the 'B' final, just the third time Facey has competed in that event this season. Facey set a new team-best mark of 1:03.65 in the morning prelims to advance.

Sophia Sebastian joined Facey in the 'B' final, coming within a second of her all-time PR with a final of 1:04.93. Dani Fasan was the Aggies third finalist in the 100 Breast, winning the 'C' final in 1:05.05.

Ashleen O'Brien obliterated her own team leading mark and lifetime best in the 100 Back by swimming 54.94 in the morning and later went 55.31 for 8th in the 'A' final. Mia Cunnan came within .10 of her season best in the 'C' final, swimming 57.13 for second in that race. McClelland finished with a prelim time of 57.82 but did not advance. Sophia Sebastian was an exhibition swim in that event but set a two-second season best by swimming 58.16. Greenberg also set a season-best of 59.69 in the prelims.

Friday's evening program ended with the Aggies setting yet another season-best relay mark, this time in the 400 Medley Relay where O'Brien, Facey, Ma, and Pincin teamed to swim 3:42.71 for fourth.

In Mission Viejo, Taylor Hornberger qualified for the 1-meter diving final scoring 273.55 in the prelims and later scoring 266.05 in the final for seventh place. Hornberger went in with the third-highest degree of difficulty in the field.

The Aggies again had a strong showing between both diving finals as Londen Christensen (268.95), Reanna Agah (264.80) and Kendall Menard (257.85) all dove in the consolation final and improved their scores from the prelims.

The 200 Back, 100 Free, 200 Breast, 200 Fly prelims are on tap for Saturday morning with finals in those events plus the 1650 Free and 400 Free Relay to follow in the evening to cap off the meet.
