Monterey Park, Calif. - UC Davis opened the 2020 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships with season-bests in the 200 Medley and 800 Free Relays and sit in sixth in the team competition following Wednesday night's events at East Los Angeles College.
The Aggies' 'A' relay time of 1:41.89 beats out the next closest time, a 1:43.14 swam back in November at the Phill Hansel Invitational, by nearly two seconds. Hawai'i won the event in a meet record 1:38.35 with the Aggies finishing sixth.
UC Davis also swam a 'B' team in the proceeding exhibition heat of the 200 Medley Relay that finished in 1:45.64.
Beating the previous team-best 800 Free Relay by 4.54 seconds, Wednesday night's 'A' team time of 7:24.41 was good for fifth place.
In Wednesday night's non-finals action, Ashleen O'Brien swam a season-best 52.90 in the 100 Free time trial and Sophia Sebastian swam a season-best 57.07 in the 100 Fly time trial.
Wednesday night's program featured just eight event finals, all of them relays. The Aggies will be back in the pool tomorrow morning for prelims in the 500 Free, 200 IM and 50 Free. The Thursday evening program will feature finals in those events preceded by finals in the 200 Free Relay.
Thursday will also see the start of diving competition at the Marquerite Aquatics Center in Mission Viejo.
Though diving will not be streamed, swimming events will be streamed at http://mpsports.org/watch for a subscription fee. Live results are also being published on the app Meet Mobile, which can be downloaded here and requires a small subscription fee.
