Hometown heroes lead UC Davis to season high in San Jose

Landess (San Jose), Cunningham (Hayward), Johnson (Los Gatos) highlight 194.925 meet

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Junior Gabby Landess won the individual all-around with a career-high 39.200 and finished as one of four Aggies to capture at least a share of an event title, as UC Davis posted a winning 194.925 in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation gymnastics dual meet at Provident Credit Union Event Center Friday night. Host San Jose State scored a 192.575.

Landess, a 2017 Presentation High School graduate and an Airborne Gymnastics alumna, competed in front of a hometown crowd. She tied sophomore teammate and fellow Bay Area product Cortney Cunningham with the win on uneven bars at 9.875, then followed with marks of 9.700 on vault, 9.800 on floor and 9.825 on beam.

Another local, senior Cammi Johnson (Los Gatos), won the balance beam outright with a career-best 9.850. Junior Alyssa Ito added a 9.825 on balance beam, another of seven UC Davis scores of 9.8 or better in the meet.

Meanwhile, freshman Logan Clagg made her all-around debut with a second-place 38.825. She won the vault with a 9.800, and tied for third place on both bars (9.750) and floor (9.775). Clagg added a 9.500 in her collegiate debut on beam to round out her meet.

As a team, UC Davis opened the meet with a season-high 48.950 on bars, hit a 48.575 on vault, put up a 48.625 on floor, then closed out the evening with another season best of 48.775 on beam. 

Friday's meet was the first of back-to-back duals with San Jose State. The Aggies host the Spartans on Friday, February 7. Meet time is 7 p.m., tickets are available at tickets.ucdavis.edu.
