DAVIS, Calif. — The first of three UC Davis home basketball doubleheaders, scheduled throughout the month of February, will take place this weekend when UC Davis hosts Cal Poly on Saturday. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. or 35 minutes after the preceding UC Davis women's basketball game (which starts at 2:30 p.m. vs. UCSB) ends, whichever is later.Â
Other doubleheaders taking place throughout the month are slated for Feb. 15 and Feb. 29 when the men host CSUN and Long Beach State.
In addition to BigWest.TV's video stream, Scott Marsh's call of the first Aggies-Mustangs matchup of the season is available on AM 1280 The Answer and the station's TuneIn Channel. Audio, video, live stats, tickets and in-game Twitter updates links are available at Men's Basketball Gameday Central.
UC Davis basketball fans will notice a slew of familiar faces inside The Pavilion since Saturday is the team's Alumni Day. As part of the game's festivities, the program will honor the 1997-98 NCAA Division II Men's Basketball National Championship team during the game.
Even though Cal Poly leads the all-time series, the Aggies have quickly closed that gap during the
Jim Les era. Not only has UC Davis won the last five in a row versus the Mustangs, it collected a victory in six of the last seven games. Starting with their 2014 Big West schedule, the Aggies won 11 of the last 13 head-to-head meetings; the two anomalies from this block of games each took place in San Luis Obispo.
UC Davis also won the last seven played on Bob Hamilton Court.
Under first-year head coach John Smith, Cal Poly is averaging 65.20 points per game (9th in the BWC )and allowing opponents an average of 73.85 (7th). By comparison, UC Davis' averages are 71.59 (3rd) and 70.77 (6th).
Series Record: UC Davis trails 35-25
Last Cal Poly Win: 2/2/17 — A, 74-70
Last UC Davis Win: 2/7/19 — A, 63-53
Series Streak: Cal Poly +5
