Davis, Calif. - Kendal Scheiner took home Reining MOP and UC Davis (0-5, 0-1) took three straight reining points to end the meet in a 7-13 loss to No. 1 Auburn (8-0, 3-0) on Friday.
Scheiner's 73-72 win over Auburn's Terri-June Granger was a career-high and came in the middle of a stretch of three straight points for UC Davis (0-5, 0-1).
Riding third,
Paige Neufeld's 64.5 on Karma held up against the Tigers' Peyton Hall going eighth with a 63 and
Macey Newkirk's 71.5 in the fifth spot held up against the final ride of the day, Boo Kammerer's 71.
Keely Laughlin earned one of two UC Davis Fences points with a career-high 86 on Gracie in the second group to top the Tigers' Ericka Koscinski and
Stephanie Don followed with a season-best 82 on Olaf in the final Fences ride of the day.
Laughlin's 86 makes it back-to-back meets with an 80-plus Fences score after scoring an 84 against Fresno State on Nov. 15, 2019.
Sabin Marquardt earned the Aggies' lone Flat point with a 71 on Eden, moving her overall Flat record to 4-1 on the season. Marquardt has not lost a Flat matchup since Oct. 4, 2019 when the Aggies opened the season at Baylor.
Sarah Finkel provided the highlight of the afternoon in the Western Arena for UC Davis, winning 75-74 on Cornbread with the final Horsemanship ride of the day and coming just a half a point shy of the high score in the event. Finkel's score was a career-high.
UC Davis jump into the busiest portion of the schedule now that the Spring season is officially underway. The Aggies will travel south to Fresno Feb. 7-8 to take on Fresno State and UT Martin, the latter of whom will count in the Eastern College Athletic Conference standings.
