Davis, Calif. - After winning winning one event and taking second in another while swimming on two winning relays in UC Davis' win over Fresno State on Jan. 25, senior Mia Cunnan has been named Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Athlete of the Week the conference announced on Wednesday.
This is Cunnan's first career conference player of the week award.
Cunnan's day last Saturday began by winning the 50 Free in 23.80, a time that ranks fifth on the team this season and just .01 off her season best despite the Aggies still training heavily for the MPSF Championships in February. Cunnan finished a luxurious .33 ahead of Fresno State's Anna Moers in that race.
She took second in the 200 Back just two events later in 2:05.40, shaving time for the third consecutive meet. The team leader in the 200 Back at 2:03.02 which she set at the Phill Hansel Invite on Nov. 23, 2019, Cunnan has dropped her 200 Back time each meet of 2020 since opening the second half with a 2:06.48 at San Jose State on Jan. 17.
Cunnan also anchored both UC Davis relays to wins against Fresno State, swimming 23.11 to close out the Aggies' 200 Medley Relay win and wrapping the meet with a 51.84 anchor leg on the winning 400 Free Relay.
The San Rafael, Calif. native has top-five times in three events on the team season performance list so far.
Cunnan will lead UC Davis when the Aggies head to Stockton on Saturday to face Pacific in their final dual meet of the season at 12 p.m.
