PORTLAND, Ore. — UC Davis returns to campus with a 3-1 overall record after a 4-3 win over host Portland in Sunday's finale in the PNW.
The Aggies picked up the first point of the day, winning doubles on courts No. 1 and No. 2. Sara Tsukamoto and Lauren Ko maintain their perfect record at the top of the doubles lineup with a 6-3 win over Jelena Lukic and Anna Oberg to be 3-0 in duals, and a team-best 8-3 overall.
Winning at No. 2, Kristina Breisacher and Shirley Hall recorded their third dual win together, defeating Marija Elenova and Neli Sunjic 6-2.
The Aggies are now 3-0 this season when winning the doubles point.
Moving into singles play, the Aggies sent their top-three in the lineup on the court, as Portland's indoor facility only has three courts. The Pilots took the lead with singles wins at No. 1 and 3, while Breisacher went the distance on court two.
Earning a three-set win, Breisacher defeated Sunjic 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 to bring the overall score to 2-2, with three matches heading on court, and was the only Aggie to win both matches on Sunday.
With the match on the shoulders of the freshmen, the Aggies did not disappoint. Yana Gurevich won her third dual of the year with a straight-set win over Elenova at No. 4, and inches closer to singles leader Tsukamoto with seven total wins.
Needing one more singles win, Kristina Evloeva remained undefeated this spring, recording her first clinch with a dominant 6-3, 6-1 victory over Portland's Laura Okazaki.
After the match was won 4-2 by UC Davis, Ko was in a third set when she was awarded code violations that ended the match for a 4-3 score.
The Aggies continue their road swing with a pair of matches in Southern California, kicking off Big West Conference play at UC Riverside and Long Beach State next weekend, Feb. 1-2.
